French Polynesia's biggest cultural festival: nights of Tahitian dance and song at the open-air To'ata stage.
Heiva i Tahiti is the most important cultural event in French Polynesia, going back to 1881. Dance groups and choirs compete on the open-air To'ata stage in Papeete, with the ocean behind the audience and the mountains behind the stage. The 2026 edition ran from July 2 to 18. In 2027 the competition is replaced by a six-day, non-competitive farereira'a because Tahiti hosts the Pacific Games, so rooms and flights in July and August will be tight.
