City2Surf Sydney schedule

• Sunday, August 8, 2027: The 14 km course runs from Hyde Park in Sydney's CBD to the finish at Bondi Beach.
• Start order: Elite wheelchair athletes start first, then seeded runners, then runners with previous times under 70 minutes and 90 minutes, then open running and jogging groups, and last the Back of the Pack group for walking, wheelchairs and strollers.

History of City2Surf Sydney

The first City2Surf was held on 5 September 1971, starting beside Sydney Town Hall, and drew 1,576 starters. It was inspired by the Bay to Breakers event in San Francisco. Since 1973 it has been held on the second Sunday in August.

About City2Surf Sydney

A 14 km fun run from Hyde Park to Bondi Beach, with tens of thousands of runners, joggers and walkers.

City2Surf is a 14 km run, jog or walk from Sydney's CBD to Bondi Beach. More than 80,000 entrants start in staggered groups, many in costume, with bands playing along the route. The climb up Heartbreak Hill is the famous part. Entries are limited and general entries have sold out in recent years, so book early.

Know before you go

• Entry is limited, so enter as soon as entries open.
• Start groups are set by previous race times, with a Back of the Pack group for walkers and strollers.
• Sydney Airport (SYD) is about 15 minutes from the city center by train.
