Early-morning flights from DTW typically have lower delay rates and reduce risk of cascading weather issues. If traveling over the holiday peak (Dec 20–28), consider adding a buffer day to your itinerary to accommodate potential winter disruptions in Michigan. Use fare alerts and flexible date searches to pinpoint the cheapest windows.
Choosing between direct and connecting flights on the DTW–LAX route depends on priorities: nonstops (direct) save time and reduce weather-connection risk but often carry a premium; connecting itineraries can be cheaper but add connection risk during December winter storms.
