December at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) means increased passenger volume for holiday travel to destinations like Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Manhattan, Jersey City, and Philadelphia. Travelers should account for longer security lines and more crowded terminals, especially during the weeks surrounding Christmas and New Year. Airlines often add seasonal capacity, but demand remains high — book earlier and use online check-in to save time.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in December welcomes visitors traveling from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and other U.S. hubs. Expect mild temperatures, increased holiday activity in neighborhoods like Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, and steady tourist flows to attractions including Disneyland in nearby Anaheim. Plan ground transport in advance and anticipate busier rental car counters and ride-hailing pickup areas.
December events on both ends of the EWR-LAX route influence travel patterns: New York City holiday attractions (Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting, holiday shows, and seasonal markets) elevate departures from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), while Los Angeles hosts holiday parades, concerts, and seasonal attraction programming that draw arrivals to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). These events increase airport and road traffic, influence hotel pricing, and can affect airline schedule loading.
The best time to fly EWR to LAX in December is typically early December (first two weeks) or after January 2nd to avoid peak holiday crowds and higher fares. If your travel must occur during the Christmas/New Year period, choose mid-week departures and red-eye flights to find relatively lower prices and reduced airport crowds. Book 45–90 days in advance for optimal balance between availability and cost; monitor flash sales and last-minute seat drops but expect limited inventory close to major holidays.

Connecting flights can be cheaper but add uncertainty and longer total travel time; popular connection cities include Atlanta, Chicago, and Dallas. Balance price against convenience: if you value a faster, simpler journey, choose nonstop; if saving money is the priority, a short, well-timed connection may be acceptable.
