The market known today as the Salzburg Christkindlmarkt has existed since 1974, and it celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.

One of the oldest Advent markets in the world, set under the cathedral and fortress in Salzburg's Old Town.
The Christkindlmarkt fills Domplatz and Residenzplatz with around 100 stands, choirs, tower music and Krampus parades. Smaller markets at Hellbrunn Palace, Mirabell Square and the fortress add more choices. The practical catch is that the market is busy at night and on weekends, so the Old Town fills up.
