Panagbenga is a Kankanaey word that means season of blooming.
It was first organized in 1996 as the Baguio Flower Festival, after the devastating 1990 earthquake. It was a way for the community to highlight its culture and tradition.
The month-long festival has grand parades and a fireworks show, plus competitions for the grandest float, landscaping and street dancing, and a pageant.
Baguio is about 4 to 6 hours by bus or car from Manila, depending on traffic.
