History of Oyster Festival, Mali Ston
The festival is a food event with oysters and oyster dishes such as soup, fritters and roasted oysters, plus Dalmatian song and wine. Oyster farming in this area goes back a long way: records from the 17th century describe collecting and selling oysters. In 1936 oysters from Mali Ston Bay won the Grand Prix and Gold Medal at the World Exposition in London.
