History of Starkbierfest Munich
Starkbierfest was originally the Salvatorfest and predates Oktoberfest by almost 200 years. Strong beer brewing in Munich began in the early 17th century with the Minim friars. Paulaner has held its festival around Lent for the last 150 years.

Starkbierfest, the Strong Beer Festival, is held every year around Lent in Munich. The original is at Paulaner am Nockherberg, where thousands fill the banquet hall for strong Salvator beer, a band and food. Other venues like the Augustiner-Keller hold their own strong beer season. The highlight is the Salvator rehearsal with its satirical sermon.
