- Last Sunday in February: The Crida at the Serrano Towers proclaims the start of the Fallas.
- March 1 to 19, 2 pm: A mascletà fireworks barrage in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento every day at 2 pm. The Fallera Mayor sets it off from the Town Hall balcony.
- March 15 to 16: The Plantà: the children's fallas must be fully assembled by the morning of the 15th and the large ones by the morning of the 16th, when the jury visits. The pardoned ninot of the year, the only figure spared from the fire, is announced on the 15th.
- March 17 to 18: Prizes are awarded and the Flower Offering to the Virgin begins on the 17th and continues on the 18th.
- March 18: The Nit del Foc (Night of Fire) is the main firework display. Crowds gather along the Jardín del Turia, and an early arrival gets a spot with no trees in the way.
- March 19: The Cremà: all the fallas are burned, children's ones first, then the rest.

Getting to Las Fallas
- Valencia Airport (VLC) is the closest airport. Alicante (ALC) and Murcia-San Javier (MJV) also serve the area.
- Walking is the best way around. Bus routes are more limited during the Fallas and the underground is packed at peak hours, so skip the car and bring comfortable trainers.

Where to stay in Valencia
- El Carmen, in the historic center, comes alive with music and impromptu street parties. A visitor staying there heard brass bands at 3 am, so expect little sleep.
- Benimaclet has many students, with bars and clubs open late. Prices are higher than usual during the festival, so book well in advance.

History of Las Fallas
One widely told origin story involves Valencia's carpenters, who burned their parots (wooden lights with candles hanging off them) in the streets on March 19 and added old unwanted items. That grew into the large, colorful monuments burned at the end of the festival today, a ritual of leaving the old behind.

About Las Fallas
Giant satirical sculptures burn in the streets at midnight.
For five days each March, Valencia fills its squares with fallas, huge papier-mache and wood monuments skewering politics and pop culture, alongside daily fireworks displays called mascleta at 2pm. It peaks on the final night, March 19, when every falla burns in a citywide bonfire called la crema. Book accommodation many months ahead since the whole city is booked solid.
