Four days of parades, cumbia and folklore before Lent in Colombia, a UNESCO-recognized carnival with more than 800 folk groups.
Barranquilla Carnival fills the city for the four days before Lent, opening with the Batalla de Flores parade on Vía 40 and closing with the symbolic burial of Joselito Carnaval. In between come the Gran Parada de Tradición y Folclor and the parade of comparsas. It is a blend of African, Indigenous and European traditions. Most of the city shuts down during the four days, and rooms near the route book early.
