While summer peak months have slightly higher frequencies, September still offers numerous direct morning and evening departures that suit business and leisure travelers alike.
For September travel, the cheapest fares are often found by booking mid-week flights (Tuesday to Thursday) and searching 6–8 weeks in advance. Use fare alerts and flexible date searches and compare departures from Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted because budget carriers at Stansted sometimes lower prices on off-peak midweek slots.
Baggage rules vary by airline: low-cost carriers often charge for hold baggage and larger carry-ons, while full-service airlines include at least one checked bag depending on fare class. For September travel, arrive at the airport 90–120 minutes before departure for international routes from busy terminals like Heathrow or Gatwick, and 60–90 minutes if flying from smaller London City Airport.
September sees a drop in summer holiday crowds but still experiences busy commuter traffic, especially during morning and evening peaks. Book airport transfers, parking, or Heathrow Express and Gatwick Express tickets in advance to secure better rates and avoid last-minute surges during early-week business travel.
