Machail Mata Yatra schedule

• July 25, 2026: The shrine's Kapaat reopened with the traditional rituals as scheduled. Bad weather then deferred the pilgrimage for devotees to July 28, subject to favorable conditions.
• Daily in 2026: Pilgrims could travel only between 5:00 AM and 5:00 PM. A daily cap of 8,000 pilgrims was set, and registered pilgrims over the limit proceed the next day.

Getting to Machail Mata Yatra

• The yatra starts from Jammu. The total distance from Jammu to Machail Bhawan is 304.7 km, of which only 1.7 km has to be covered on foot.
• The last motorable point is Darshini Deodi, where there is a small bus stand that carries pilgrims from Gulabgarh.
• In 2026 two RFID registration counters were set up at the base camp at Gauri Shankar Temple, Sarkoot, Kishtwar, and several more at Gulabgarh. No pilgrim could go past the first security check at Deondi Morh without an RFID card.

• In 2023 the Yatri Bhawan in Gulabgarh could host 2,000 pilgrims at a time, and a tent city around the temple at Machail Bhawan and local stay houses were also used.

About Machail Mata Yatra

A six-week Himalayan pilgrimage to the Machail Mata shrine in the Paddar Valley, with a 1.7 km final walk to the temple.

The Machail Mata Yatra takes pilgrims to a shrine at 9,705 feet in the Paddar Valley of Kishtwar. The 304.7 km route starts in Jammu and is almost all by road, with a final 1.7 km on foot. Pilgrims must register online and carry an RFID card, may travel only between 5 am and 5 pm, and a daily cap applies. Bad weather can pause the yatra for days.
