About East Maui Taro Festival

A free one-day celebration of kalo (taro) at the Hāna ballpark, with poi pounding, hula, live music and local food.

Each spring Hāna residents turn the town ballpark into a festival for kalo, the Hawaiian word for taro. Farmers compete in the Queen's Challenge, visitors try poi pounding, and food and craft booths fill the field. The catch is getting there: Hāna is a long drive from the rest of Maui, and in-town parking is limited, with a shuttle looping the lots.
